Gawdy Estate’s festive flock delights at the Harleston light switch-on

This year’s Harleston Christmas Light Switch-On was a truly magical evening — and Gawdy Estate was delighted to play a part by bringing along a group of our gentle lambs to meet the community. Their presence added a heart warming touch of countryside charm to an event already filled with joy, music, and festive cheer.
Christmas wouldn’t have been complete without our two shepherdesses, Hannah and Lauren, who lovingly chaperoned their flock throughout the evening. Their calm guidance and warm smiles helped children and families get up close to the lambs, creating moments of wonder that truly captured the spirit of the season.
The celebrations featured a lively stage hosted by Park Radio, with wonderful performances from Harleston Sancroft Academy Primary and My Choir Rocks, whose singing set the tone for a memorable night. Families enjoyed a Santa’s Grotto at HIP, food and drink trucks, a cosy marshmallow-toasting pit, and a couple of festive rides that brought joy to visitors of all ages.
To ensure the lambs felt comfortable, they were positioned beside Boots the chemist, away from the main stage. This thoughtful decision kept them slightly distanced from the louder music — just in case they preferred a calmer spot for their evening out!
We also appreciated the collaborative spirit behind the event’s promotion. It was wonderful to see local organisations supporting one another to help make the celebration a success.
As the lights were switched on and the town came alive with festive warmth, the lambs — guided by Hannah and Lauren — proved to be a true highlight. They sparked conversations, delighted children and adults alike, and reminded everyone of the deep-rooted connection between Harleston and its surrounding countryside. It was an evening that brought people together and celebrated the very best of community spirit.
