Nature leads, we follow

Conservation sits at the heart of our farming philosophy, balancing sustainable food production with care for the natural world. As part of the Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier, we help biodiversity flourish.

Regenerative land management

We embrace regenerative practices by:

  • Closing nutrient loops and replacing synthetic fertilisers, where practical.
  • Traditional Hereford cattle restore biodiversity through mosaic grazing.

  • Integrating livestock into arable systems.
  • Enhancing resilience and building long-term soil health.
  • Recirculating resources through rainwater harvesting and renewable systems.
  • Restoring ecosystems including hedgerows, woody pasture and parkland.

Habitat restoration

We restore habitats and support biodiversity by improving field margins, restoring hedgerows and enhancing woodlands and grasslands.

Pollinator habitats

Our 3-metre field margins are rich in wildflowers, offering vital shelter and foraging grounds for pollinators and small wildlife.

Biodiversity focus

We champion biodiversity by promoting ecological balance and supporting the health of our local ecosystems.

Hedgerows

We re-lay old hedges, plant new ones and plant over 1,000 trees a year to boost carbon capture and wildlife. Through the Tove Valley Cluster and EFG Central England, we also collaborate on landscape scale environmental initiatives.

Harnessing renewable energy

We're committed to a more sustainable future, with solar PV rooftop arrays, biomass, solar-thermal systems and heat pumps now powering much of the estate. These renewable technologies have significantly cut our dependence on imported energy.

Energy efficiency

Our partnership with Acorn Bioenergy supports anaerobic digestion for circular nutrient and energy use.

Green Power

Together, we're building a cleaner, greener future - we are phasing out oil boilers, expanding heat pump use, and continually looking at renewable energy generation.

Reducing runoff, protecting rivers

We actively engage in catchment-sensitive farming practices, collaborating with Natural England. We are in the process of creating a reservoir at Gawdy which will provide a sustainable, year-round water source to support our farming, protect wildlife habitats, and strengthen our resilience against drought and flooding.
