We were delighted to be able to host two afternoon open events for head teachers, school practitioners, outdoor educators, and mental health support workers to understand the work of the TRUST programme and the difference it is making to children’s physical and mental wellbeing across Northamptonshire.
The programme, Nurture through Nature, has been running at Courteenhall for a year and organiser and author of the TRUST programme Alex Preston explains how it all began ‘When we started, we had a shared passion to support all children with their learning, parents with parenting and school staff with how best to support families to make the most impact. We wanted families to come and experience the extraordinary power of the landscape and people at the Courteenhall Estate, and to make a measurable impact on the quality of what schools were offering by working directly with children and alongside school staff’.
Following on from that, the TRUST programme has received incredible feedback from teaching staff, parents and children who have experienced the outdoor learning environment, including this letter received from a parent, after their child attended:
‘I can’t believe the difference in my child. You have been able to prove that she is able to do much more that she thinks, she is able to have a go at things without the crippling levels of anxiety that she used to experience’ – Parent of a Y2 child
The open afternoon provided the opportunity for schools to sign up to the programme which is now full for 22/23, however there is a waiting list and we’d encourage you to get in touch to see how the TRUST programme can benefit your setting.
What’s more is that TRUST is currently in the process of becoming a registered charity, and once that status is in place it is hopeful to secure much needed funding for growth.
