In March we heard about a Courteenhall goldfinch that had made its way to the coast of Ireland.
The male goldfinch, which was ringed by us 18 months ago, popped up in February in County Clare – 579km away.
Now a second goldfinch ringed by our team of ringers has been seen in Scotland.
The three-year-old male goldfinch was ringed near Roade on October 12th 2023 by the Northants Ringing Group.
He was next recaptured and released again by Clyde Ringing Group in Sliddery in North Ayrshire – 466km from Northamptonshire.
Chris Payne from Northants Ringing Group said: “Another amazing recovery of a small bird weighing only 17 grams when my team of ringers first ringed it.”
